Holiday shoppers wanting to buy locally should visit the Simsbury Historical Society for gifts that are not only local, but uniquely Simsbury!The museum store, in the Ellsworth Visitor’s Center, 10 Phelps Lane, is open Thursday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., and is stocked with locally-produced note cards, children’s items, Simsbury T-shirts and hats, books, Westerwald pottery, glassware, ornaments and other specialty items.
Two of the most prized are the Simsbury Bead, a stunning silver bead with an engraved image of the Old Meetinghouse, the perfect addition to a Pandora bracelet. Written by residents Alan Lahue and Mary Jane Springman, the book chronicles the history of the town through a selection of more than 200 archival photographs. The captions present distinctive stories from the past that helped shape the community. It’s a fascinating glimpse into Simsbury’s past and a wonderful gift.
